How to Choose a Solar Hot Water System

December 15, 2008 by admin Leave a Comment

Putting up a solar hot water system is a worthwhile endeavor. For one, you can save money by using renewable energy to heat up your water system. At the same time, you get to receive the same convenience of a regular hot water system in a sustainable way.

Reducing carbon emission by saving energy is one significant solution to global warming. It may seem that investing on a solar hot water system is more expensive compared to sticking with your regular system when in fact it is not. You can save money only if you know how to choose a solar hot water system that is appropriate for your household consumption.

The first thing to consider before deciding to put a solar hot water system is to determine how much exactly you are going to save. On the average, using a solar water heater will drop down your water heating bill to up to 80%. Aside from that, the sun is not only a source of renewable energy but also a source of free energy. It means that generally, your water heater consumption will not be affected by the fluctuation of gas prices and fuel shortages. If you are going to perform a little arithmetic on this, installation is indeed expensive but in turn, you are going to save up to $15 a month the moment it is installed. It is to say that you are saving money more than you are paying.

To finally get a taste of the amount of money you are going to save, start out by evaluating your source of solar energy, determining how much heated water you are to consume to size up your system, choosing a system design that is most energy efficient, and finally, estimating the total cost of installation.
