Ways to save the environment
Early man did not understand many of the natural forces and resources around him and therefore was in awe of them and even worshipped them. With time and increased knowledge, man began understanding the various natural forces and phenomenon around him due to which he forgot to respect the natural resources around him. Man got used to the comforts and adopted an attitude that the natural resources were only for his use and he could use them as he liked. This was the greatest mistake. Along with overutilization, came misuse of the resources. Man started cutting down forests, dumping non-degradable wastes everywhere, polluting the water bodies and even managed to pollute the air we breathe. The current generation need to change their attitude and think of ways to save the environment.
Here’s how:
Understand that the earth and all its components both living and non-livings, including air, water, fire and earth and all species have inherent worth apart from their current or anticipated future market value.
Human beings should have more respect for the environment which they inhabit and should stop therefore from selfish and greedy motivations to exploit the environment.
This can be done encouraging students and locals to initiate action on their own. This can be done by organizing debates / discussions / exhibitions / talks on environment issues in school and encouraging people to participate in them. Volunteers must motivate residents to use dustbins and garbage pits. Students must be encouraged to check for leakage of taps in school and at home and take appropriate measures to minimize wastage of water.
Guide people to identify various sources from which items of daily use are obtained and emphasize on understanding and appreciating different facets of our environment, learning how to low after them and how to conserve precious resources.
Adopting an interactive approach will make citizens active participants in the learning process and will focus on developing appropriate attitudes towards the conservation and careful use of all resources and personal action in areas like saving water, electricity and materials of everyday use.
If we do not act now very soon our earth which is bustling with life will turn into desert areas. Let us plant trees so that the next generations can enjoy their fruits. Trees do so much for us; it is time we returned the favor.
The law of nature states that, human life can sustain only if he develops a harmonious and interdependent relationship with nature and the environment.
Humanity’s struggle for interdependence and prosperity has not benefited everybody. Humanity’s struggle has often created disharmony with nature and among people. Where resources essential to future generations are depleted or degraded and where equitable access is denied, both the current and future quality of life for all humanity is jeopardized and earth itself will be imperiled.
Remember, for the world to be greener place, we all have to make a beginning. Let us raise our voice in protest if we see trees being unnecessarily being felled.
